This cup is simply pressed into the hole in the body, so an accurate fit is essential.
They are compatible with HOSCO and Allparts bodies but not Mighty Mite which have a slightly larger jack hole (rude!).

Be careful when installing not to force the cup as that can chip the finish. If the hole is too tight carefully sand until the cup fits.

Next up 3/8″ string ferrules. These are (obviously) compatible with Hosco bodies but also a number of other aftermarket manufacturers. 3/8″ x 3/8″ (9.5mm x 9.5mm) they are flush fit.

Why so many different types of ferrules? Well here’s my opinion – The original ferrules used on Telecasters were smooth with a lip that sat proud of the body. This was for ease of manufacture – with the lip on top of the body the ferrule hole depth did not have to be so precise. Some time later (early 60s?) when the manufacturing process was streamlined the lip was countersunk for a flush fit. No idea why – maybe Leo had bought a huge amount of ferrules and didn’t want to waste them but the trend was now for a smooth rear of the guitar. These 3/8″ flush fit ferrules are (in my opinion) a way to have the same footprint and appearance of countersunk lipped ferrules without having to countersink the holes.

These Hosco vintage spec Telecaster control plates are rather nice.
